Back to School

Monday, July 28th- 2008

Today was the first day back to school for Joseph.  He started 6th grade today.  I still can't believe it myself.  Where did all the time go?  It seems like just yesterday I was driving him to his first day of Kindergarten, bawling my eyes out (I did wait until he went inside, so he wouldn't see me).  While I didn't cry this year, I was sad.  I love Joe.  We had a fun time hanging out this summer.  I miss him when he's gone all day.  On the other hand, I do get more things accomplished while he's at school.  When he's home, I just have too much fun hanging out with him to get anything done.  He was happy to get back to his friends.  This year he rules the school.

Another good read

Sunday, July 27th - 2008

So, I finished my Twilight trilogy and still had 6 days left until Breaking Dawn.  I needed something to read.  I have to have a book with me ALWAYS.  Adam has been bugging me to read this book.  So, I decided to start it today.  It is the sequel to Howl's Moving Castle, which I LOVED.  So far I am loving it.  It is a total fun easy read.  There is something about the way she writes that I find very humorous and entertaining.

The next Criss Angel?

Saturday, July 26th - 2008

So, Joe's newest obsession is magic tricks.  It started off with card tricks.  He has a few really good ones.  Then he started practicing coin tricks.  He can also make a toothpick disappear, and re-appear quite convincingly.  He is now working on levitating.  He is obsessed with all things magic lately.  He wants to be the next Criss Angel.  He needs a good stage name.  Any suggestions?

We went back to school shopping today.  He needed new shoes.  We also picked up some clothes and school supplies.  It was fun hanging out with Joe today.  He is really good company.  Of course, he had to bring the cards along.

Dominoes and Otter Pop

Friday, July 25th - 2008

Joe has to start school Monday.  He's excited, he's missed his friends.  I wanted to take the opportunity to have one more fun day together before he goes back.  We played some Dominoes today.  It was fun.  I love games and we hadn't played this one in a while.

We also invited Joe's friend Mikey to go to Hamilton Pool with us today.  Hamilton had some electrical problem and was closed, so we went to Desert Oasis instead.  They swam for nearly 2 hours and had a good time.
Afterwards, it was so hot that Joe and I invaded the freezer and ate Otter Pops together.  I think we had at least 4 apiece.  He also had "Meet the Teacher" today.  He is excited for school.

Yummy!

Thursday, July 24th - 2008

So, my brother Jared loves to bake.  He's really good at it too.   This is what he dropped off at our house this morning for Joe.  We had been talking earlier this week, and Jared had said he was thinking about making this chocolate/peanut butter cup - cake.  He asked Joe if he like Reeses Peanut Butter Cups.  Joe said he did (I love them too - especially the miniatures).  I guess he tried out the recipe last night for Tricia and some of her friends.  He brought us the leftovers the next morning.  Can I say how fabulous it was?  There are bits of Reeses Peanut Butter Cups in the cake too.  Yummy!  Thanks Jared.

Why you shouldn't grocery shop when you are hungry...

Wednesday, July 23rd - 2008

This is why you shouldn't grocery shop when you are hungry....

So, Joe and I went grocery shopping today.  As usual, I was very prepared.  I had my list of exactly everything I needed.  Why do I always buy more when Joe shops with me?  Also, why do I shop when I am hungry?  Well, today it was kind of a necessity.  It got to be lunch time and the cupboards were bare, so I pretty much had to go shopping.  So, we are in the cereal aisle...It is ridiculous how many different cereals and choices there are.  I go through cereal phases.  I will like it A LOT for a while and eat it every day, and then I get sick of it and don't want to eat it for a month.  Usually, I go for the semi-healthy stuff.  Honey bunches of Oats, or something like that.  I also like grapenuts and wheat chex (those come from living with my dad).  So, I was going for the usual, when the Apple Jacks caught my eye.

When we were younger, we were only allowed "sugar" cereal on Sunday's.  Weekday cereal contained wheat or bran, or something equally brown in color.  But on the weekends it was the good stuff.  However, with 5 kids, we were not each allowed to pick out our own box.  We all had to agree on what we got.  Sometimes we took turns picking, and sometimes we voted.  I was always outvoted.  My favorite was Apple Jacks.  For some reason we almost always ended up with Lucky Charms.  I was bitter about that for a long time.  When I saw the Apple Jacks in the cereal aisle today, I had a flashback to my childhood.  I wanted that box.  Look at it.  It's so bright and fun.  There was no one there to out vote me, or tell me I couldn't have it.   It didn't help that I was hungry.   Oh well.  We ended up leaving the store with much more than was on my list.

The Twilight Zone

Tuesday July 22nd - 2008

I am officially in the Twilight Zone again.  In preparation for "Breaking Dawn", coming out soon, I decided to read the Twilight series, yet again.  I gave myself 3 weeks figuring I'd read one a week until the release date.  Of course I've cruised through them and I still have over a week to go.  So, obsessed as I am, I am on line reading every article, checking out my space pages and looking up other peoples guesses as to what is going to happen.  I have quite a few theories of my own.  I can't wait for August 2nd.  I feel like a kid at Christmas.  Why is it so hard to wait?
